Setup of your own VPN server using Outline VPN
How to connect to Outline VPN and configure the server
After ordering a VPS with a pre-installed OS template and Outline VPN server, you will need several tools and access credentials to proceed:
- Access to your VPS
- Outline Manager
- Outline Client
1. Connecting to the server and obtaining the management key
- First, you need to connect to your server via SSH:
Windows: use PuTTY
Linux / macOS:ssh root@YOUR_SERVER_IP
- After connecting, run the following command to get the management key:
sudo cat /root/outline-access.txt - You will see a line similar to the following:
{"apiUrl":"https://IP:PORT/KEY","certSha256":"HASH"} - Copy this link — it will be required to add your server to Outline Manager.
2. Installing Outline Manager
- Install the application and launch it.
3. Adding your server to Outline Manager
- In Outline Manager, click “+” and “SET UP” in the “Set up anywhere” column.

- In window “2”, paste the copied management key and click “DONE”.

4. Creating an access key for a user
- In the server management panel, click “Add new key”.

- After creating the key, you can (1) adjust its settings (Rename / Delete / Limit traffic) or (2) view the access details

- To get the client access key, click “Share” (2) and copy the access key.

5. Installing and connecting via Outline Client
- Download Outline Client for your platform:
Windows / Linux / macOS / Android / iOS - After launching the application, click “+”, paste the copied client access key, and confirm.

- Then simply activate the connection — and your VPN is ready to use.

Important recommendations
- Do not share the server management key with third parties
- Create a separate key for each user
- Configure a firewall on the server
